ULTRAKILL is a retro FPS that takes the fast movement of classic games like Quake and Doom and pushes it much further. You play as V1, a combat machine running through Hell to collect blood. Enemies are everywhere, but simply shooting them is not enough. You need to move, switch weapons, and use the environment to stay alive.
The interesting part is how ULTRAKILL turns movement into part of your attack. Standing still gets you killed. Keep moving, dash, slide, and jump to dodge attacks.
Use your movement to control the fight instead of staying behind cover. Dash away from attacks, slide across the floor, jump over enemies, and use different angles to reach targets. Some attacks are much easier to avoid when you are already moving.
Your health also changes how you approach enemies. V1 can recover health by getting close to enemies covered in blood, so taking a little risk can sometimes keep you alive.
ULTRAKILL gives you several weapons with different ways to deal damage. Switch weapons quickly to deal with different enemies.
The Marksman revolver, for example, can use coins to create trick shots, while other weapons offer their own special techniques. Learning these tricks gives you more options than simply firing the strongest weapon you have.
The ULTRAKILL game rewards players who experiment. You can shoot an enemy normally, but you can also combine movement, weapon abilities, parries, and environmental tricks to deal damage in faster or more creative ways.
That also affects how you replay levels. Once you understand a weapon or movement technique, an area that felt difficult before can suddenly become much easier.
ULTRAKILL is best played as an action game where movement and combat work together. The more you learn about its weapons and mechanics, the more control you have over every fight. If you want another shooting game with quick combat, Squad Shooter is a good next game to try.
